Painted Fairy Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus solarensis The Cirrhilabrus solarensis is commonly known as Clown Fairy Wrasse, Painted Fairy Wrasse or Rainbow Fairy Wrasse. The colourful and vibrant Painted Fairy Wrasse resembles, blue head fairy wrasse to a great extent. This ideal reef fish is among the very few variety which is colourful, personable and docile. The Painted Fairy Wrasse fish has a variable morphology. But whatever is their body colour, they have bright glowing red eyes. Male Painted Fairy Wrasse fish usually are observed, to have a dark red head and a purple crescent shaped patch on its throat and edges of gills. They have a plain white belly interrupted by green coloured flanks. Juvenile females appear red with a small black patch on upper caudal peduncle and a white ventrum. However, female adult Painted Fairy Wrasse fish come in red head and the presence of blue ventrum adds to it beauty. The Painted Fairy Wrasse fish is known to come in its best vibrant colour at the time of spawning. The Painted Fairy Wrasse is a medium maintenance and relatively hardy fish. An ideal fish tank would have sandbed for the fish to hide and bury itself when intimidated by predators. While sleeping, they conveniently cover them in the algae or sand substrate. These are peace loving community fish and love to swim in schools. The Painted Fairy Wrasse adds to the beauty of any aquarium. These are not venomous and act peacefully towards the tank mates. Though this wrasse member is not aggressive towards other fish species, two male Painted Fairy Wrasse fish can never stand each other in the same tank. It is always advisable to have one male with 3-5 females. In the absence of any female Painted Fairy Wrasse, the male looses interest and does not show its vibrant colour. Sometimes it is also observed that under threatened situation, male fish changes its gender. The Painted Fairy Wrasse is not comfortable with the introduction of any like bodied fish.
